Jimi Hendrix

This is where Jimi spent the last night of his life - Monika Dannemann's basement flat in Notting Hill, London.  He died here on September 18 1970, aged just 27.

Monika (inset, right), Jimi's occasional German girlfriend, talented artist and ex-ice skater, committed suicide at her Sussex home on 5 April 1996 after losing a court case.  Now we will never know the full story of exactly what happened on that fateful night in 1970.

However, Hendrix archivist, the Late Tony Brown conducted a brilliant and thorough investigation in his book: Jimi Hendrix, The Final Days.

The railings leading to the basement flat can be seen by the front of the van.  I didn't photograph the door to the flat in order to respect the privacy of the occupants
